From behind the shutter
I took this picture at the Palo Alto Baylands. There is a lot of activity at that time of the year. I took many shots, and this one caught my attention for its non-conventional angle. I submitted this image to the Palo Alto Camera Club competition on June 6th 2007, and the judge called this image a “Duck Butt” view, because the head of the bird is not visible.
The main characteristic of this image is not its “nature” representation, which will require to include the head of the bird. As a creative image, I like the composition and the movement.
I see an interesting construction and layout with the pikes underneath the flying creature. The wings also represent an interesting symmetry of patterns, with spike-like designs.
This image also interested me for its black and white tones, with the exception of the feet, which ended-up orange-ish, bringing the attention to the core of the action: trying to find a safe place to stand. The only edits I made in PhotoShop are a slight increase of the color saturation of the feet and a slight vignette effect.
