Last June, club member Radka Tezaur initiated a project meant to enhance our ability to see familiar things in a different way. Inspired by a book “Photography and the Art of seeing” by Freeman Patterson, Radka challenged us with the following assignment:
“Lock yourself in your bathroom with your camera and a tripod.
Give yourself twenty minutes to shoot ten pictures.”
For some reasons, this project is often assigned to photography students. I decided to take a series of shots that would tell a story. Along the theme of the movie “A night at the museum”, or “Toys Story”, I imagined that the bathroom comes alive during at night. I turn off the light and used a flashlight to create the feeling of the “deep night”. Using a flashlight allowed me to create giant shadows out of small objects, changing the perception of scale.
Here goes the story:

Now that I look at it almost a year later, I find it pretty dull!! I think that the light and the shadows on some of the pictures are interesting, but the composition and the setup of the objects could definitely benefit from some extra work. Who knows, maybe I’ll get back to it one day. After all, this blog is meant to track a learning journey.
