Wednesday, January 24th 2007 was a special program night at the Palo Alto Camera Club. During this session, members present one or more photos and get feedback from the other members. We had also a special guest, Marvin Wax, who is a seasoned designer and photographer. For those familiar with Eichler Homes, Marvin made most of the photos of this very good book: Design For Living. An, yes, I own an Eichler… Â
I decided to submit a photo I made last summer while at Squaw Valley. It was taken from below a retractable awning. The result is a combination of contrasted colors between the fabric and the deep blue sky. Note that I didn’t use any filters, I assume the high altitude was responsible for the deep and unpolluted blue sky.

The pattern shows too many repetitions. So, I thought that cropping the image would make it more interesting, focusing on the basic elements of the composition.
Here is the first option, cropped in a square shape:
And here a Rectangle Crop:
I presented the three images above and after several discussions, Marvin agreed that the rectangle crop was the most interesting. He suggested though to crop an additional third of the sky.
